I knew I'd really made it not only when my book started appearing at dramatic markdown prices in the sale flyer, but when I visited a hobby shop and found a few copies with a huge orange "clearance!" sticker, at one-quarter the original price...and additional price stickers showing it had been marked down twice before.
I bought all of them they had, and kept the clearance stickers on one copy. It's a great way to prevent ego trips.

Ah, Jill. We few, we blighted few, we band of authors.
If there were such a thing as a hobby shop around these parts anymore, maybe I could buy mine with hi-viz discount stickers on it too. Alas, I don't know where one can go to actually pick up a copy to flip through pages to pass judgement. "We can order it for you!" they helpfully say. Never mind. Thanks though.
