Oh that Stearman is looking SO NICE Pat!

Pat Hawkey

Thanks, Tory. Even after all the grief, I'm expecting a little satisfaction at the end.

I was wondering if the stands you produce are available for sale by themselves? How do you get the acrylic rod bent so consistently?

Pat Hawkey

No, I don't sell my stands. If somebody wants one they have to pay for an airplane to perch on top as well. Because the airplanes come in all sizes, the stands must also. One size does not fit all. I bend the rod (heated in the oven at 350 for about two minutes) around curved jigs I make out of sheet balsa or some similar material.

To get the consistency I want, the stands are a lot more work than they appear.
